Call for Papers

Presentation/ Paper

We invite you, your colleagues and students to submit a brief, maximum 300 word,
abstract as the basis for a 20 minute (academics), or 10 minute (students), symposium-
style presentation that contributes to the ever-evolving discourse on interdisciplinary
design. The deadline for the abstract is November 8, 2013. Final selection of
contributors will be made by Friday, November 29, 2013.
Accepted abstracts should form the outline for a short, 1,500-3,000 word, peer reviewed
paper/ essay. For those selected, this text, and any accompanying images, are due on
Wednesday, February 21, 2014 and should be sent to the individuals listed at the end of
this document.

Themes for the presentation and paper include (but are not limited to):

• Definitions of design based Interdisciplinarity

• Advantages/ disadvantages of an Interdisciplinary approach in design

• Interdisciplinarity within design related Academia – program and curriculum development

• Interdisciplinarity within Design Practice – examples of projects and methodologies

• Technology driven Interdisciplinarity

• Historical precedents for Interdisciplinarity

• Interdisciplinary Design Theory

• Entrepreneurial Interdisciplinarity

• Related etc.
